The Waiting Is The Hardest Part
I always liked that Tom Petty song and now I am living it. So much of immigration is waiting. So now we are waiting for that letter to come in the mail from the consulate so we can plan our next trip to Toronto to land. At the same time this week the US Department of Injustice filed it's vile brief seeking to deport my sweet Emilio. It's filled with garbage and insults to a person's intelligence. The amount of time and waste the US government goes to discriminate against us is mind boggling. I cannot stress enough to any binational couple reading this blog to have a backup plan. Canada was ours as far back as 2004 and it became our primary plan in 2006 and the timing could not have been better for us. It was mere coincidence we got news of our acceptance into Canada the same week as the end of the line for Emilio's asylum appeals, we're lucky, others weren't as fortunate like our friends Gito and Juan. Read their archives of the time they were separated and I dare you not to cry.
This process has also gave us wonderful new friends, some of their blogs are all listed in this page and each has been wonderful support both on and off the pages of this blog. Now we need some new members of our blog family to start their process so we can help you along the way too.
So life goes on and today a couple more realtors came throught the house. Emi and I took Katie (our super dog) out shopping for mums and mulch trying to live as normal a life as possible through all this craziness. Right now he's making another batch of home made tomato sauce with the remaining crop from our garden, along with sausage and meatballs. I am a lucky guy!

Hang in there guys, at least you know the border is near :-) I learned a long time ago that there is no such thing as coincidences ;-) Canada knew you would be needing to get out.
*hugs*
Now get all your paperwork in order and start your packing ;-)
As info, our attorney's office emailed the NY Consulate for a follow-up on Friday. Perhaps that will jump-start them a bit.
Home-made tomato sauce with sausage and meatballs . . . . Mmmmmmmm.
What time shall we all arrive for dinner, Boys?!?
Yummmm!
It is unfortunate that we have to leave our homes to find true happiness and acceptance. Julia and I started reading the blogs and you all have been an incredible source of inspiration for what will be our journey to Canada. As a bi-national couple, we share the same, and unbelievable at times, bureaucratic BIA injustice. I've started my own blog after reading about the appeal of the asylum decision. Un-f***ing believable! Who will actually win that? I'd like to link your blog to mine. May I? http://tomausviews.blogspot.com
Tamara & Julia
Nik, Bob and Mel, many thanks as usual... I'm already tired of tomatoes, I even have them in my dreams!!! hehehe
Tamara and Julia Thanks for yours thoughts. We are not sure about who will win that, but for sure we'll be far from here. Our best advice: Start it ASAP, every minute counts! Good luck in your journey and of course you can link to our blog and we'll do the same.
This is so crazy! I just found out that Emilio is Venezuelan like myself! That is just awesome! Another gorgeous Venezuelan-American pair! LOL! Steve (My BF) and I are so excited about our prospects to move to T.O next year! We're currently in the Boston area and are finishing school before we cross the border. Maybe we can make hallacas together during Christmas of '09! That would be awesome! You guys are truly inspirational to us!
Harrison,
There is a nice Venezuelan community in TO, so "arepadas" are the formal invitation all the time. I'm looking forward to make some Toronto "hallacas" very soon. I found “Harina P.A.N.” there!
I'm from Caracas.

Did you apply already with your partner?
Thank you for your good thought!
Hey Emilio!
I really felt the pain you guys have been though as my own...it's incredible that in this day and age people still have to struggle in order to have their most basic rights to equality and happiness. Steve is going to T.O next month and would like to ask you guys to recommend us the best places to check out. We want to live in a suburb with subway/bus access to the city.
Anyway...you guys ROCK!
By the way...*YAY* for the arepadas...they are the most delicious thing ever. Cannot remember the last time I had a good "Reina Pepiada"! I am losing my venezuelan identity...LOL!
Hey, me too but still can bake some arepas and eat them with "asado negro". I miss so much "golfiados con queso e' mano" from el Junquito. Yumm
You guys should be gathering all documents, especially for you since you may ask for some in the "Bolivarian Republic of Castro"
Good luck!
